Incident Information

On the evening of January 27th, devastating tragedy struck in the 18000 block of Point Lookout Road (Route 5) and Hermanville Road. Police and medical services responded to a major accident between two vehicles that were both engulfed in flames, with one victim now deceased. 46-year-old Cesar Leonel Hernandez-Chacon of Dameron perished as a result of his injuries after his 1998 Toyota Tacoma collided with another vehicle.

35-year old Kristen Stefanic Peters of Hollywood was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after driving her 2007 Ford F-150. A Crash Reconstruction Team from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is currently examining the accident site and further details are yet to be uncovered in this shocking incident. A preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford F-150 was traveling south in the southbound lane when it was struck by a Toyota Tacoma which had been travelling north in the same lane. As a result of the crash both vehicles quickly caught fire and were extinguished by firefighters from NAS Patuxent River and Bay District Volunteer Fire Department. Speed and alcohol are suspected to have played an integral role in this crash and law enforcement is asking for all witnesses to come forward with any relevant information about this incident.
