2-Year-Old ‘accidentally’ Struck, Killed by Truck Driven by Family Member in Odenton

Tragedy struck a family in Anne Arundel County, as police report a heartbreaking accident that led to the death of a 2-year-old boy. According to authorities, a family member was repositioning a pick-up truck when the toddler wandered from the patio in front of the vehicle and was struck. Police are calling the incident an unfortunate accident, one that occurred around 1 p.m. on Monday in the Odenton area. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the child did not survive the incident. 

Police stated that the child was rushed to a nearby hospital where he unfortunately passed away. The news of this incident has spread rapidly throughout the area, causing parents to become even more cautious as their children play outside. One resident, Gardner, acknowledged the importance of being alert while driving in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, this is not the first time a young child has been involved in a fatal accident in the county. Just a few days prior, another 2-year-old boy was struck and killed in a Laurel parking lot.

Car crashes involving minors in Maryland have seen a significant increase of over 25 percent since 2020, according to data from the Maryland Department of Transportation. Shockingly, this increase saw nearly 23,000 children involved in car crashes in 2021 alone. With this worrying trend, Amber Rollins, Director of Kids and Car Safety, has highlighted the issue of larger vehicles and their blind zones. Rollins explained that the bigger the vehicle, the larger the blind zone, which can cause serious visibility issues for drivers when it comes to what is directly in front of them. It is essential to acknowledge the risks of larger vehicles and ensure that all drivers take appropriate precautions to keep themselves, passengers and other road users safe.
