Toyota Sienna Collides with Chevrolet Cruze Resulting in Death

Incident Information

Early Sunday morning, a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 270 in Maryland left one woman dead. The accident occurred around 3:35 a.m., when a 2015 Tesla Model S rear-ended a 2007 Toyota Sienna that was stopped on the highway. The driver of the Tesla, Thabiso Mandela Mokuena, 24, was taken into custody for the suspicion of impaired driving. A 2015 Chevrolet Cruze that was also travelling on I-270 attempted to swerve out of the way of the stopped vehicles, but ended up rear-ending the Toyota. One of the passengers in the Toyota, Sandra Lorena Morales De Arevala, 35, was killed in the collision. The two other passengers in the Toyota sustained injuries and were transported to the Inova Trauma Center for treatment. Maryland State Police are continuing to investigate the accident.
