Incident Information

A major crash in Pikesville injured dozens of people Wednesday evening after a Maryland Transit Administration bus struck multiple vehicles before crashing into a FedEx Office building.

The collision occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. on July 8, 2026, in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road in Pikesville, Maryland. Emergency crews responded to reports of a crash involving an MTA bus and several other vehicles. Officials later said the bus hit numerous vehicles before losing control and striking the building.

The incident triggered a mass casualty response. According to FOX45, 15 ambulances, Medevac helicopters, the Shock Trauma GoTeam, and ambulance buses from Howard and Anne Arundel counties responded. Crash Team detectives determined that 12 vehicles were involved, including one vehicle that rolled over.

The MTA bus driver was transported by medevac to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition. Officials also confirmed that 35 additional people were taken to local hospitals. All patients were transported by 7:18 p.m.

The Maryland State Highway Administration closed MD 140, Reisterstown Road, in both directions between Old Court Road and Sudbrook Lane while emergency crews worked the scene. Downed power lines also brought BGE crews to the area.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene with damaged cars scattered across the roadway. One local resident told FOX45 that it was the worst crash she had seen in the community in more than 30 years. Another witness described the scene as “crazy” and said he had never seen that level of vehicle damage in the area.

No victim names were released in the original article. Officials also had not clarified how many injured people were on the bus versus in the other vehicles.

This crash remains under investigation. Authorities will likely review vehicle data, witness statements, roadway conditions, bus operation, and any available surveillance footage to determine what caused the chain-reaction crash.
