Incident Information

Baltimore County police are searching for a driver who left the scene after striking and fatally injuring a bicyclist early Saturday morning in Dundalk.

Officers responded at approximately 2 a.m. on July 25 to the area of Merritt Boulevard and North Point Road after receiving a report of a collision involving a cyclist.

Emergency medical personnel transported the injured rider to a nearby hospital. Despite receiving medical treatment, the cyclist later died.

Authorities had not publicly identified the victim when the initial report was released. Police also did not provide the cyclist’s age, gender, hometown, or direction of travel.

Investigators said the driver who struck the bicycle fled the scene. No description of the vehicle or driver was included in the original news report.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Team is investigating. Detectives will likely examine debris, vehicle fragments, tire evidence, damage to the bicycle, and any camera footage available from nearby businesses or passing vehicles.

The intersection of Merritt Boulevard and North Point Road is part of a heavily traveled Dundalk corridor. Traffic can include passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, buses, pedestrians, and cyclists at different hours of the day.

The early-morning timing may present challenges for investigators because fewer witnesses may have been present. However, dashboard cameras, private security systems, traffic cameras, and vehicle damage could help identify the fleeing driver.

Police asked anyone with information to contact investigators at 410-887-5396. Authorities had not announced an arrest, located the suspect vehicle, or disclosed whether they had identified a possible make or model.

Leaving the scene of a collision involving an injury or death can result in serious criminal charges under Maryland law. Investigators continued seeking evidence to identify the driver and determine precisely how the cyclist was struck.
