Three Hospitalized After Brandywine Pursuit Ends in Crash

Maryland’s attorney general is investigating a police pursuit that ended in a serious multi-vehicle collision near the Prince George’s–Charles County line, leaving three women hospitalized.

The incident began at approximately 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, when officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle after receiving information from law enforcement authorities in Arlington County, Virginia. State investigators said the driver initially encountered officers but then fled, prompting a pursuit.

The pursuit continued toward Route 301 in Brandywine. Investigators said it ended when the fleeing vehicle collided with two unrelated vehicles on Route 301 just south of McKendree Road.

Three women ultimately required hospital treatment. A woman occupying one of the uninvolved vehicles was injured and transported to a hospital. Both women who had been traveling in the fleeing vehicle were also hospitalized. State investigators described the condition of one of those women as grave.

Emergency reports separately indicated that several patients had to be extricated and that two critically injured patients were transported by medevac following the crash. FOX 5 reported three patients were extricated, with two taken by helicopter in critical condition and another transported with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The makes and models of the three vehicles were not identified in the Baltimore Banner report.

Because law enforcement officers were pursuing the vehicle immediately before the collision, the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office has taken responsibility for reviewing the circumstances. Investigators also expect available body-camera and dashboard-camera recordings to become part of that review.
