Maryland State Police are working to determine the details of a fatal crash that claimed the life of one person on a Carroll County road this past weekend.

The collision, involving two vehicles, occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, according to the State of Maryland.

The victim, identified as 78-year-old Richard Snyder of Westminster, was transported to Carroll Hospital following the crash, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Also involved in the crash was 29-year-old Lydia Hanson from Baltimore, who was driving a Volkswagen sedan. After her vehicle collided head-on with Snyder’s Chevrolet truck—circumstances of which remain unclear—Hanson was airlifted to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment. She was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter, and her condition is still being evaluated by medical professionals.

The accident took place on Maryland Route 97, also known as Old Washington Road, at the intersection with Maryland Route 26, Liberty Road.
