Authorities are actively investigating a fatal collision that occurred last night in Prince George’s County.

The crash, reported shortly before 8:40 p.m., resulted in the death of 56-year-old Carlton Herndon of Clinton, Maryland. According to a statement from the Maryland State Police, Herndon was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Preliminary reports indicate that Herndon was driving a Nissan Maxima and attempted to cross Route 301 when he entered the path of a northbound Ford F-250, driven by 34-year-old Anthony Coleman of Upper Marlboro.

Coleman declined medical treatment at the scene.

The collision took place on the northbound lanes of Route 301 at Missouri Avenue. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation and working to determine the sequence of events that led to the tragic incident.
