La Plata Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of One

LA PLATA, Md. — A 42-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Rosewick Road on June 25, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., according to the La Plata Police Department.

The crash involved a 2022 Kawasaki ZX636 motorcycle and a 2008 Ford Focus. Police, fire, and emergency medical personnel responded quickly to the scene. First responders found the motorcyclist, a La Plata resident, in critical condition. Officers immediately began CPR before he was transported to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Ford Focus, an 82-year-old woman also from La Plata, was not injured and did not require hospitalization.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Ford Focus failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming motorcycle, causing the collision. Investigators have ruled out speed and alcohol as contributing factors. The investigation remains active as authorities work to gather additional information about the crash.

First responders followed emergency protocols at the scene, with police, fire, and EMS working in coordination. Officers’ prompt initiation of CPR underscores the critical role of law enforcement and medical personnel during life-threatening emergencies. However, the injuries sustained in the crash proved to be fatal.

In accordance with department policy and out of respect for the family, the identities of those involved have not been released. No charges or citations have been announced at this time.
