Incident Information

A tragic accident in Anne Arundel County is under investigation by the Maryland State Police. The incident involved a single vehicle and took place Thursday night on the ramp leading to Route 50 East from southbound Interstate 97.

The driver, 29-year-old Shannon Rita Alan from Annapolis, was alone in her 2020 Honda HR-V. She was declared deceased at the scene by emergency medical services from Anne Arundel County.

Initial reports indicate that the vehicle veered off the road for unknown reasons and struck an embankment. Investigators have stated that impairment does not seem to have contributed to the crash.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration was present to handle road closures, while the Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation into the cause of the accident.
