Incident Information

WESTMINSTER, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred Friday night in Westminster.

The deceased pedestrian has been identified as 53-year-old David Comer of Westminster.

According to authorities, just before 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 14, troopers from the MSP Westminster Barrack responded to a crash on westbound Baltimore Boulevard, just before Gorsuch Road, involving a pedestrian and a single vehicle.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a 2014 Kia Optima, traveling westbound in the first lane, struck Comer as he entered the roadway. Officials reported that two pedestrians were running from the grassy median and attempting to cross the road at the time.

Comer was pronounced dead at the scene by Carroll County emergency medical services.

The driver of the Kia was identified as 18-year-old Bridget Dautermann, also of Westminster. She was not injured.

Authorities also reported that the second pedestrian, 24-year-old Zachary Comer of Westminster, allegedly assaulted the front seat passenger of the vehicle, 18-year-old Edgar Herrera of Westminster, following the crash. Both Zachary Comer and Herrera were taken to local hospitals, and charges against Zachary Comer are pending the investigation.

Maryland State Police believe Zachary and David Comer were father and son.

The crash caused all lanes of Baltimore Boulevard to be closed for approximately three hours while the investigation was conducted. The scene was assisted by personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, the Westminster Police Department, and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
