Crash Involving Several Cars and Two Tractor-Trailers Blocks Capital Beltway
Incident Information
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — An early-morning crash involving multiple vehicles, including two tractor-trailers, caused significant delays on the Capital Beltway Tuesday and sent one driver to the hospital.
Around 5 a.m., Maryland State Police responded to the Inner Loop of I-495 near Connecticut Avenue for reports of an overturned tractor-trailer. When troopers arrived, they found the truck split across both sides of the Beltway — the cab was blocking lanes on the Outer Loop, while the trailer was positioned across the Inner Loop.
One of the tractor-trailers had overturned in the median, closing several lanes in both directions.
By 5:50 a.m., lanes 1 and 2 were shut down on both the Inner and Outer loops, and officials said they expected the closures to remain in place for an extended period while cleanup efforts continued. Traffic was moving through in lanes 3 and 4.
The tractor-trailer driver was taken to Suburban Hospital for treatment. Several additional vehicles were hit during the crash, but authorities reported only property damage in those cases.
