Josh Schmerling was born and raised in Annapolis. He attended Beth Tfiloh Community High School in Baltimore County, Maryland. Josh then went on to the University of Maryland – College Park where he graduated from the prestigious Robert H. Smith School of Business with a B.S. in marketing. After college Josh continued his studies at the University of Baltimore School of Law where he received his Juris Doctor and graduated Cum Laude. While in Law School Josh received training and became a certified mediator. In addition, Josh served as a member of the Intellectual Property Law Journal and a member of the University of Baltimore Litigation Fellows, which was a program for a select group of law students that would teach hands on trial techniques.
During his time in Law school Josh worked as the campaign manager for Senator Bobby Zirkin. As the campaign manager Josh would set up daily grass root campaigning, fundraisers, and community events. Josh also helped develop the campaign strategy that led to a lopsided victory for Senator Zirkin in 2006.
In 2007, Josh began working as a law clerk for the Law Office of Bobby Zirkin. After passing the bar Josh was named an associate attorney for the Law Office of Bobby Zirkin and in 2011 Josh was named as a partner with the Law Office of Bobby Zirkin.
Josh is a member of the Anne Arundel County Bar Association, the Maryland Association for Justice, and the Maryland State Bar Association. Josh serves on a number of boards and commissions including on the board of a private day school in Annapolis, Maryland. Josh is proud to have served as mentor and coach for many young people across the Baltimore region.
